Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick have all declined.
Now Bayern Munich is entering plan D in its coaching hunt.
Bild states that Roger Schmidt, who manages Benfica, is now the main candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel this summer. According to the newspaper, the German giant is doing “everything it can” to keep the 57-year-old in port.
Schmidt has a contract with Benfica until 2026. He has a buyout clause of 30 million euros (almost SEK 350 million) in his contract, but according to Bild, there is a good chance that the club will not stand in his way if Bayern Munich knocks on the door. That is to say, there will not be any such sums involved.
Benfica looks set to miss out on the title in the Portuguese top flight.
Bild claim that Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton) and Erik ten Hag (Manchester United) are also on Bayern Munich’s wish list. However, the duo is not considered relevant for the assignment at the moment.
Earlier in his career, Schmidt has coached RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven, among others.
